Once Upon A Crime

5 & 6 June 2021

Book Now

Join the KLR and the fabulous team from After Dark Murder Mystery Events for this BRAND NEW event...

Once upon a time, in Story Book Land, the Cursed Book of Villainy was stolen and whoever has it holds the power to take over the world!  The only people who may be able to stop this dastardly deed are… other villains, and they need your help to find out who has the book before it’s too late!

Get your super sleuth skills at the ready and prepare for a quizzical quest as you play detective in order to solve the mystery and uncover the culprit who committed this confounding crime. Once you embark on your adventure, you’ll get the opportunity to seek out characters to question, uncover clues and unravel riddles to reveal which of the Fairy Tale culprits carried out the dastardly deed.

Part mystery, part scavenger hunt & treasure trail, this interactive event is fun for the whole family - just make sure that your brain doesn’t get too teased nor your mind too boggled whilst you seek out the solution and head towards your happily ever after.

What happens on the day?

The interactive event will take place across both Clayton West Station and Shelley Station sites and it will take you at least one hour (excluding your train ride!) to seek out the suspects and solve the mystery.  The Fairy Tale Villains will be on site from 10am to 5pm.

You will be booked onto a specific train service but you'll be welcome to start your super-sleuth adventure at Clayton West up to one hour before your train departure time.  If you're booked on the first train of the day, you can arrive from 10am.

On arrival at Clayton West Station, you'll need to check in and take hold of your detective notes. This important document includes an introduction to the mystery, instructions on how to solve the case, a list of the characters you will meet, and hints and tips to help solve the mystery.  There'll also be blank space to make those all-important notes.  REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR OWN PEN/PENCIL (or you will need to buy one from the shop)!

Then, it's time to start mystery-solving...  finding clues from the REAL LIFE Fairy Tale Villians at Clayton West before taking your steam train ride to Shelley Station to discover even more important riddles to solve!

At both stations, you can have a pit stop in the outdoor playgrounds or refuel with a snack and a drink.  There'll be platform rides on the tram at Shelley and two kid's fairground rides at Clayton West to take your mind off the quest at hand (additional fee applies for fairground rides).

There will be no time limit for you at either Station site but please remember the limited capacity on trains when returning from Shelley and plan your times accordingly.

When you have finished your investigation, you can place your answer slip in the box provided.  The answers will be revealed on the KLR and After Dark's social media channels the following day.  One lucky super-sleuth with the correct answer will be picked on each day and a special prize sent onto them.

What are the COVID secure measures?

We're led by Government guidance but - at the time of writing - we anticipate the following will need to be adhered to:

The beauty of this event is that visitors can enjoy the adventure at their own pace, allowing every individual to maintain social distancing from other guests. If necessary, the characters will wear appropriate PPE and ensure they keep a 2m distance from visitors at all times. During questioning and clue finding, the evidence doesn’t need to be handled by the guests ensuring that there are no touch points.

Once purchased, tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable unless the service is cancelled by the railway.

If a service operates as scheduled but a ticket holder is unable to attend/use their tickets, no refund will be given.

If you find yourself unable to travel due to COVID government restrictions or because of COVID self-isolation, please email us at least 48 hours before your date of travel & we can offer you some options.

The Kirklees Light Railway will do its best to operate the advertised train services. Should the KLR cancel an advertised train, tickets may be transferred to an alternative train (subject to availability) or a full refund may be given.
