The Buffer Stop Café

The Buffer Stop Café is the railway’s largest eatery and is located within the station building at Clayton West. Serving a variety of fresh, seasonal, locally-sourced produce, the Buffer Stop Café also has a specials board which changes daily. Well-behaved dogs are permitted in the café.

Please note that the cafe stops serving hot food at 3pm.

Shelley Tea Room

Located at the Shelley terminus station, the Shelley Tea Room is a small, cosy café offering panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

The Tea Room offers a selection of drinks, snacks and light refreshments.

During special event days, the barbecue outside the Tea Room will be open and offering a delicious selection of hot food, sourced from the local area.

Please note the Tea Room will close 10 minutes before the departure of the final train of the day from Shelley.

Picnic Areas

Should you wish to eat al fresco, or bring your own hearty packed lunch with you, picnic areas are available outside both Clayton West and Shelley Stations.

With an abundance of outdoor seating and tables, you can watch the world go by whilst satisfying those rumbling tummies.

Afternoon Tea

Our Afternoon Tea & Steam Experience comprises of a all-day rover ticket plus a delicious selection of fresh finger sandwiches, scones served with butter, fresh cream and fruity jam, sweet treats and cakes, served with your choice of freshly brewed tea or coffee. Prices for 2020:

  • Afternoon Tea & train ride for one adult - £17.50
  • Afternoon Tea & train ride for two adults - £35
  • Afternoon Tea for a family of 4 (2 adults + 2 children) - £60
  • Afternoon Tea for a child (add on) - £14

Advance booking is essential (we suggest at least one month's notice) – please call the railway on 01484 865727 to check availability and reserve your slot or reserve online via our Gifts & Experience page! We regret that due to the popularity of our afternoon tea experiences, we may be unable to accommodate you on your preferred date of travel but will endeavour to book you in for a convenient time.

Afternoon Teas are not available during Special Event periods nor on Bank Holidays. Please check with the railway for exclusions.

Train rides will be part of the scheduled service on general operating days.

Afternoon Teas are served at set times.
