The Kirklees Light Railway is seeking an enthusiastic and trustworthy individual for the permanent, full-time role of Operations Assistant.
Working closely with the General Manager and Operations Manager the main purpose of the role is to assist with the daily operating of the railway and the business as visitor attraction. This includes railway-specific tasks such as driving steam and diesel locomotives, guarding and assisting with operational paperwork, maintaining files and records; but equally includes non-railway specific tasks such as working in front of house roles (ticket office/shop), working at events, and working with, and supervising, volunteers as required.
Working closely with the wider Operations team, the post holder will also be required to assist with maintenance and repairs to rolling stock, locomotives, permanent way, line-side infrastructure and any other maintenance work that may be required to enable the business to function.
The successful candidate will be expected to deliver excellent customer service to all visitors, ensure that the Kirklees Light Railway is a safe environment and take an active role in the operation of the railway and wider visitor attraction.
This position requires excellent communication skills and a friendly persona. The role is physically demanding and requires the successful candidate to work outdoors, whatever the weather.
Please note that specific training will be given for the safety critical elements of the role. Candidates will be required to meet the standard to ensure continued employment.

Due to the safety critical requirements of the role, applicants should be aged 21 years old or over.

We are a very small team and need someone who is very reliable, enthusiastic and flexible.
Hours: 40 hours per week including weekends, Bank Holidays, school holidays and occasional evenings. These hours will be worked over five days in seven as required, ensuring the railway can operate. This will include at least one day on a weekend and occasional evenings.
