12th Annual Steam & Diesel Gala

9th & 10th September 2017

The Friends of the Kirklees Light Railway will be holding their 12th Annual Steam & Diesel Gala Weekend over the 9th and 10th September 2017.

This year's theme is "Giants on the Line" and will feature both ends of the 15" gauge spectrum.

Visiting us from our friends and colleagues at the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway will be No.8 Hurriance and No.9 Winston Churchill. No event with the word 'Giant' in the title would be complete without one of the Greenly/Bassett Lowke "Little Giant" locomotives being present... We have gone one better and there will be two! Visiting us from our friends and colleagues at Rhyl Miniature and Ravenglass and Eskdale Railways will be Prince Edward of Wales and Synolda.

A new attraction this year will see Denby Dale Lions holding a "miniature" Beer Festival at Clayton West station whilst the Steam & Diesel Gala weekend will be taking place.

Barnsley Model Railway Club will be brining some of their layouts which will be on display in our workshop building and there will be a display of classic, vintage and interesting vehicles at Clayton West.

Trains will be running every 30 minutes from 9.30am, featuring all the visiting engines and of course all avilable members of the KLR home fleet.

The event will be brought to a close as is tradition on Sunday evening with the 5pm "Shelley or Bust" which will be hauled by as many locomotives as possible.
