What Can We Offer?

Climb aboard the Kirklees Light Railway for a scenic journey along the route of the old Clayton West Branch Line. Travel by steam on a 3 1/2 mile journey between Clayton West and Shelley taking in views of the South Pennine Foothills. 

Board the train at Clayton West Station where The Buffer Stop Cafe is located to grab a quick drink and snack or something more substantial if required. Board the train and pass through our two intermdiate stations of Cuckoo's Nest and Skelmanthorpe where you may pass one of our other trains The train will then pass through Shelley Woodhouse Tunnel, the longest tunnel on a narrow gauge railway in the UK at 511 yards and then reaching the end destination of Shelley Station.

Located just 10 minutes from the M1 junctions of 38 and 39, the railway is easily accessible on the A636 Wakefield/Denby Dale road. A return journey on the train can be completed in 70 minutes, however you can choose to lengthen your visit with us adding in different aspects to your visit.

We are within reach of a number of other local attractions with Holmfirth and the Peak District only a short drive away.

How Much Do Group Visits Cost?

The below fares cover a return journey on the railway. Additional requirements can be discussed at the time of booking.

Railway Non-Operational Day 2017

Steam locomotive minimum charge - £150.00

Diesel locomotive minimum charge - £100.00

If the railway is closed on the day you wish to visit, you are able to charter a train for your visit.
