More than just a train ride!

Our main station, Clayton West, has
a full range of amenities to entertain you and your family while
you wait for the train or after you return.
To provide you with entertainment at our top-of-the-line station, Shelley, we’ve installed some new facilities and more are on the way!
If you want to stretch your legs and explore the countryside, grab a map (OS Landranger 110 or Explorer 288) and set off from Cuckoo’s Nest or Skelmanthorpe stations; your return ticket is valid from any station on the line.

Clayton West (our Main Station)
Café
We serve hot and cold food and a wide variety of snacks to 100 people or more in our vividly decorated, spacious café.

Indoor play area
Within the café area is a large carpeted space set aside for play, with Thomas and friends wooden playsets and other toys suitable for both girls and boys.

Shop
Our shop sells a wide range of Hornby and Thomas and Friends products as well as a wide range of other toys, books and merchandise.
With prices to suit pocket money to the budget of a serious enthusiast!
We accept most major credit and debit cards.

Miniature train
As well as Yorkshire’s Great Little Steam Engines, we have a Great Even Smaller Engine (7¼" gauge) which takes passengers on a ride twice around our big duck pond. From time to time the Barnsley Model Engineers bring along some of their more unusual locomotives to take people on rides.

Train-themed outdoor play area
New for 2006!
Kids can spend as long as they like playing on our big engine and wagons and on our two-storey fort, as well as swings and rockers for the less adventurous!
Our play area is compliant with all current regulations, and is fully fenced off and filled with soft bark chippings to ensure the safety of your children.

Picnic area
You can either buy from the café or bring your own food to eat on our sturdy wooden picnic benches. These are situated right next to the play area overlooking the duck pond, so you can keep an eye on the kids whilst finishing your lunch at your leisure!

Engine sheds
While they’re not working, our engines stay in the engine sheds at Clayton West, on the other side of the turntable.
Tours of the engine sheds can be arranged either in advance or, staff permitting, on the day.

Large free car park
We have space for around 200 cars in our free car park, so there’s no need to worry about finding somewhere to park or finding change for a meter!

Shelley Station ("the top end")
New this summer! Now you can wile away an hour or more at our new end-of-the-line development!
We have made a significant investment in facilities at Shelley Station, providing a picnic area with sturdy benches and a train-themed play area similar to that at Clayton West, but with the addition of a sandpit!
